my stuff (2026)
its 2026 and i've made big changes to my setup (if you have an eagle eye you should've noticed the transition from the macOS badge to the NixOS badge on the home page)
yes i switched to linux from macOS. yes it was tahoe's fault. yes, it's insane that to update the firmware on a thunderbolt dock, you have to play peek-a-boo with a notification and pray the process completes (because when has updating firmware been easy and foolproof?) im sick of it. i wanted to enjoy my computer, and tahoe was the hay that broke the camels back on that front. i still think the hardware is excellent, but i care less about that now.
in any case this is the list of things that could be sold from a home invasion for a pretty penny (please dont rob me my come up is legit)
computers
ive got a bunch of computers. i use a 4x4 kvm from level1techs to hook everything up. i often only switch between the linux desktop and the gaming pc during the day. i use the other two when i need to get wired access to the mac studio or framework desktop, if for some reason im unable to do something over the network via ssh or vnc.
| name | cpu | graphics | memory | notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| gaming pc | 9950x3d | 4090 fe | 128 gb | personal pc. used to be windows for games with anticheat (riot) but ive since wiped and put linux on |
| framework desktop | ryzen ai max 395+ | ai max 395+ + rtx 6000 pro blackwell | 128 gb | home server, hosts git, jellyfin, llms, etc. |
| framework 13 | ai 9 hx 370 | ai 9 hx 370 | 96 gb | personal laptop, living room coding |
| framework 13 | ai 9 hx 370 | ai 9 hx 370 | 96 gb | work laptop, for onsites in los gatos and ny office |

| mbp 2024 | m4 max | m4 max | 128 gb | desginated macbook for work, rarely used |
peripherals
bear with me. just like how i use multiple computers, i use multiple mice and keyboards. switching things out keeps the experiences new and fresh. when your job is sitting in a chair all day, anything to spice it up (even a new desktop background) helps.

audio
i adore my audio setup. i keep buying more speakers, but everything on my desk is final. half because it cost an arm and a leg and i only have four of those in total, but also because i dont believe the next tier of equipment is worth the bezos elon i'd have to kill to get 'em.
if you were wondering where to start, id encourage you to find a local audio equipment place (could be guitar center, b&h, etc.) and just listen around. more often than not the attendants work there for a reason (perhaps partially because they LIKE audio, crazy to think about, right?) and would be happy to help you nail a purchase for a sound you love. i've done this twice, both with veritas and my katherine.
what drove me to dive into electrostatic headphones was simply the technology. before estats, i was a die hard planar magnetic fan. of course, because of the tech there too. it was just too damn interesting how theres different kinds of transducers for audio. dynamic drivers work yeah they're bassy thumpy yup, but seeing ribbon tweeters or thin ass sheets of metal that produce the same sound is just, awesome.
like, what even is that. how does it work. how is this a speaker. this pushes air and makes sound? it sounds good? i have no clue. but this is what drives me to my random purchases. this is my vice.
the other crazy thing i do with audio is route it over ip. i dont have a usb connection that routes audio. that means that if my switch dies, my audio goes out. that is a con im willing to put up with considering its a unmanaged switch thats a foot away from me… worthy tradeoff to have audio routed to and from multiple computers. instead of large mixer boards with analog routing, we have… technology. the mt48 i mentioned earlier has software that lets you click and define on a matrix routes. e.g route mic to pcs 1 and 2, then to fx input 1, and then fx input 1 to pcs 3 and 4. route all input from pcs into analog outs 1/2 and 3/4, which are headphones and speakers.
the best part is, there are web apps to control this. aes67 is built into the linux kernel (thank you MERGING!) and drivers for windows and macOS (which were operating systems i used at the time of purchase.) i can tap in from my phone across the room in bed and mute a route or change the interface volume, its awesome lol. the interface on the device im pretty sure is actually the website you visit anyways, so nothing is confusing either.
if i think of anything else i have that i didnt write about (or if you're curious about) ill likely add it here after a ping somewhere. been sitting on this for far too long and i want to write other things.
Footnotes:
i actually bought the lg evo equivalent of the new studio display monitors from apple and they're… okay… but not OLED. it's the same with going to 240hz from 60hz. its practically impossible to go back, you notice too many faults.
